30th March 2020 – update

Dear Valued Member,

Our members and our team of dedicated employees are at the heart of our business and are integral to everything that we do.

I want to reassure you that during this extremely difficult time we are doing everything we reasonably can to retain our team and look after our on-site residential colleagues whilst aiming to safeguard The Lensbury and the business for the future.

Very difficult decisions have had to be made during this challenging time – we are not alone in this as Covid -19 is impacting health clubs, hotels and indeed all businesses.  We have focused on actions which are intended to preserve long term employment prospects for colleagues whilst safeguarding and maintaining The Lensbury and its facilities for the future.  We have utilised the Government support to help many of our employees during this uncertain time and we appreciate the Government are now also supporting self-employed freelance workers.   You will probably be aware that many of our trainers work on a freelance basis.

As many members will know from the Government announcements the support package for our employed staff is called the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. This scheme enables a business to grant a leave of absence to employees (called furlough leave) and to apply for the Government to fund 80% of the usual monthly wage costs of those employees (subject to a £2,500 monthly cap) so they can remain employed and re-start work when a business re-opens or when they are required back at work. A similar Government support scheme is available for self-employed workers but is not operated by the business where they work.

A number of members have asked about colleagues who live on site; the status is that individuals who live on site remain living at The Lensbury, except those who wished to leave.  Those remaining on site have been redeployed to assist with the property where possible or have been placed on furlough leave but remain accommodated at the property.

We appreciate that everyone in the wider Lensbury community has been impacted in some way and we are sorry that some members have decided to cancel membership; we wish you well and thank you for your involvement with the club.

We remain optimistic for the future of The Lensbury and expect that business levels will return to normal in due course and will enable us to welcome back our employees, freelance teams and our loyal members as soon as possible.

Your loyalty and understanding during this challenging time is much appreciated and we have been overwhelmed by your good wishes and messages of support over the last few days.

Please stay safe, keep well and please try out our online programs.

I look forward to welcoming you all back to The Lensbury as soon as possible.

Kindest regards,

Julie Hammond

20th March 2020 – update

Dear Valued Members and Guests,

Firstly, and most importantly, I hope you and your loved ones are staying well and healthy during this unprecedented time. It is with this in mind and with a very heavy heart that I am writing to inform you that we have taken the very difficult decision to temporarily close The Lensbury from 9.00pm tonight (Friday 20th March 2020) until further notice.

This decision is in line with the latest Government advice to businesses of our nature and is in response to the worldwide and widespread outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), recent developments and the health and well-being of all at this unprecedented time. Although this decision has not been taken lightly, our members, guests and employees health is our top priority and we are supporting all actions required by the Government to mitigate the impact of the spread of this disease in a time that we have not seen in the 100 year history of The Lensbury.

We do understand that there may be concerns around the payment of your membership fees during this time, which is why we will not be processing any membership payments during the current period of uncertainty and until further notice – we will take care of this so you do not need to contact us. Whilst you are unable to use our facilities and services, all memberships will be frozen and to this effect we are not in a position to process any cancellations. As soon as we are able, we will look to re-open the Club and restart your membership, at which time we will be in contact. We will also look to honour or rearrange all pre-booked activities upon reopening.

We thank you for your understanding, continued support and loyalty during this challenging time and would thank you for your co-operation in saving any membership and booking queries until the Club reopens. Together, we can prevail and move forward from this significant challenge that faces us all.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide further updates via email and The Lensbury Club app in due course, as the situation progresses. We will also make all updates available via this webpage.

Take care of yourselves, your families and loved ones. Rest assured, we at The Lensbury will be here to welcome you back with the warmest of hospitality in the not too distant future.

Best regards,

Julie Hammond
