To celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, we’re honouring the women whose long-standing dedication has helped shape The Lensbury into the vibrant community it is today. These are our Lensbury Legends—women whose commitment, expertise, and unwavering passion have become integral to the heartbeat of our hotel.

In this feature, they share insight into their journeys: what has motivated them, what they’ve learned along the way, and the advice they would offer to women stepping into the world of hospitality, wellness, and leisure.

Amanda Morrow - Fitness Instructor

What’s one milestone in your career that you’re especially proud of?

Completing my GP referral course was a big milestone for me. It was a six-month course that I did on my own, and it really shaped the direction of my career. It led me into working in rehabilitation and supporting individuals with specific health needs, particularly seniors. I’ve been here since 1996, so I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years, but that step into rehab work really paved the way for where I am today.

What has your experience been like as a woman working in this industry?

When I first started, I was the only female in the gym when I applied for the role. There weren’t many women in fitness back then, and most of the courses were very male-oriented. Now, I find myself training far more women, especially seniors and those managing illness, and the industry feels much less male-dominated. It’s great to see more women coming into fitness.

Who are the women who have inspired you, either personally or professionally?

I’m inspired a lot by my own experiences and journey. I also really admired a previous female boss I worked under. It’s been especially encouraging to see multiple female Managing Directors at The Lensbury, and that’s been great to witness.

What advice would you give to women who want to enter this industry?

Find your passion and your niche. Focus on what you genuinely enjoy and go after it. For me, that was helping people recover from injuries and get back on their feet, rebuilding their strength and confidence. Sometimes you need to give yourself that extra push to achieve your goals.

Ros Garry - Events and Partnerships Manager

What’s one milestone in your career that you’re especially proud of?

After 38 years at The Lensbury, I’m proud of the journey I’ve had here. Starting as a florist, then planning weddings and members’ events, and now Events & Partnerships.

I’ve grown with the business, built relationships I truly value, and loved creating events that mean something to people and to the Lensbury community.

What has your experience been like as a woman working in this industry?

My experience as a woman in hospitality and events has been fast-paced but incredibly fulfilling. I’ve seen the industry change a lot, with more opportunities opening over the years. I’ve always been lucky to work with supportive teams, and I’ve tried to pass that same support on to other women coming through.

Who are the women who have inspired you, either personally or professionally?

The women who’ve inspired me most are the ones I’ve worked alongside. Those who’ve shown strength, creativity, and kindness, even on the busiest days. My family and friends have also shaped who I am. I admire women who lift others and stay true to themselves.

What advice would you give to women who want to enter this industry?

Believe in yourself and don’t underestimate what you bring to the table. This industry can be demanding, but it’s full of opportunity. Be open to learning, build strong relationships, and surround yourself with people who genuinely support you.

Jittra Srimoonchai - Housekeeping Assistant

What’s one milestone in your career that you’re especially proud of?

One experience that I am most proud of during my career at Lensbury relates to an elderly hotel guest who stayed at our hotel about two years ago. After an operation, he came to recuperate and stayed for nearly three months. His family visited at least once a week, but life was quite difficult for him. I was assigned to clean his room and while cleaning is my responsibility, I also feel it is important to make guests feel welcome, cared for and at home; this is my motto. I extended extra care throughout his stay by asking regularly how he felt and whether there was anything he needed. Before leaving, he told me that he truly appreciated the service and care provided during his stay. He mentioned he had lost his will to live when he first checked in, but because of the treatment he received, he felt he wanted to live again and that life was beautiful again. To provide such a service is more important than just making the room clean!

What has your experience been like as a woman working in this industry?

My experience working in Lensbury Hotel as a woman, has been consistently good since men and women are treated equal and gender plays no part in promotion and favours.

Who are the women who have inspired you, either personally or professionally?

The first person that inspired me was a lady named Patricia Carrol, who gave me training when I started at Lensbury. She trained me everything about housekeeping but most importantly she taught me to be helpful to my colleagues. She showed me by example that it is very important to have a good understanding of the difference in culture of people, to be compassionate to our colleagues and to build unity in the workplace. She also taught me to love my job, to do the work to the best of my ability and to uphold my integrity in whatever I do.

The second person who continues to inspire me is my supervisor, Jane Grimshaw. Jane is always very calm and composed. What I learned from Jane is that all problems can be solved and that getting emotional about things will only lead me to disaster. Jane is a very reasonable person and can cope with pressure within her composed and calm personality. I have learned so much from both Patricia and Jane.

What advice would you give to women who want to enter this industry?

What I want to say is that although housekeeping is considered a blue-collar job, I am very proud to be a part of a team here at Lensbury. For those who want to work here, I want to assure them that they can hold their head up high.

Malin Alderin - Activities Coordinator

What’s one milestone in your career that you’re especially proud of?

Moving from Sweden and securing a job here in the UK is something I’m really proud of. English isn’t my first language, so I had to adapt quickly and learn as I went. It was definitely challenging at times, but also very rewarding. Along the way, I discovered what I truly enjoyed and was able to develop those interests further.

What has your experience been like as a woman working in this industry?

The childcare industry is predominantly female and is often seen as going hand-in-hand with being a mum because of the caring nature of the role. Some qualities you just can’t train, they come naturally. I feel lucky that this industry fits so well with my background as a mum and my genuine love of working with children.

Who are the women who have inspired you, either personally or professionally?

When I was younger, I had a female handball coach who was a huge influence on me. She was a role model both on and off the pitch, helping us grow not just as players but as people. She guided our behaviour and mindset in all aspects of life, and I’ve always carried that with me.

What advice would you give to women who want to enter this industry?

Working with children is incredibly rewarding, they give you so much energy. I get real joy from talking to them and getting to know each child I look after. If you’re passionate about caring for children, go for it. Get the qualifications and certifications you need so you can truly make the most of the opportunity.
